Undeliverable: Hurricane Impacts USPS, UPS, and FedEx

In the aftermath of Katrina, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), UPS, and FedEx report significantly impacted operations in hurricane-affected areas. Delivery services in some of those areas are currently unavailable or are very limited.

Here is a listing of information from USPS, UPS, and FedEx about suspended and/or delayed service:

The USPS announced the suspension of standard mail and periodicals mail acceptance to storm-stricken areas. Effective immediately, the Postal Service is not accepting any standard mail or periodicals mail -- from any source -- addressed for delivery within the following three-digit ZIP code ranges: 369, 393, 394, 395, 396, 700 and 701. The Postal Service is now formulating plans to address the handling of standard and periodicals mail already in the system and addressed for delivery to these seven ZIP code areas.

 UPS announced that in the following ZIP codes, authorities have completely restricted access as a result of storm damage and flooding. It is anticipated these areas will be inaccessible for an extended time. Packages in the UPS system will be returned to the shipper as permitted.

FedEx announced that its services and operations, including pick-ups, deliveries and retail locations, are significantly impacted with very limited access to conduct business in affected areas. They are discouraging shipments into the following range of ZIP codes in and around the New Orleans area at this time: 70000 to 70499.

Additionally, FedEx stated that significant delays may occur in the following range of ZIP codes due to limited access: 35450 through 39772.
