World Book Night: Ingram Offers Extra Discount, New Partners Join the Cause

To help booksellers meet the demand that World Book Night publicity will bring, Ingram is offering an extra two percent discount on the event’s 32 featured titles [1] from March 4 through April 30, 2013. The discount applies to qualifying titles on all purchase orders submitted to Ingram during the term of the offer; no discount code is required.

In other news, World Book Night U.S. welcomed four new partners this week, who will help with everything from publicizing the celebration in the national media to organizing events and distributing books left over from last year’s celebration to Hurricane Sandy-ravaged schools. They join the full roster of WBN sponsors and partners [2], whose support makes the second annual celebration possible.

Of the new partners, U.S. Executive Director Carl Lennertz said, “Taken together, these developments point to our growing network of partners in the cause of community, giving and reading, as well as expanding our efforts to other possibilities year-round.”

Domtar Paper, which is including notice of its support of World Book Night in its “Paper Because” campaign in April, will run ads in national media, including the New York Times, Forbes, Fortune, and BusinessWeek. Domtar is also providing all the copy paper for the 25,000 book giver packets being sent to bookstores and libraries.

Poets & Writers, which joined the literacy campaign earlier in the year with extensive advertising and social media support, is now working to help organize several WBN poetry nights as part of the national kick-off event campaign on Monday evening, April 22.

Baker & Taylor and T.S.I. (Transport Specialties International) are working together to get boxes of last year’s books to 350 schools and libraries impacted by Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut.  T.S.I. resorted hundreds of boxes into full sets of one title each, and B&T is arranging for delivery, said Lennertz.

In addition, Ingram, which for the second year is providing a number of crucial services to World Book Night, has shipped several thousand 2012 editions to Operation Gratitude [3]. The Van Nuys, California, organization has included the books in packages to members of the military around the world.

The Prison Book Project [4] has helped WBN reach other prison programs around the country, and last year’s books were sent to four programs in December.
