Last Thursday, the National Book Critics Circle [1] presented its awards for the 2012 publishing year in six categories. The winners are:
Also at the ceremony, the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing was presented to William Deresiewicz and the Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award went to Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar.
Beginning June 1, Archipelago Books, a not-for-profit press promoting cross-cultural exchange, will be distributed to the trade worldwide by Random House Publisher Services (RHPS) through an arrangement with Hanover Publisher Services LLC (HPS). Hanover, which launched in 2010, has also brokered arrangements with RHPS for Steerforth Press, For Beginners Books, Campfire Graphic Novels, and New Europe Books.
HPS clients maintain their editorial independence but rely on HPS staff to manage their sales, marketing, and operational relationship for the book trade with RHPS.
Archipelago Books is currently distributed by Consortium Book Sales & Distribution.
Ingram Content Group announced this week that it will add more than 12,000 Harlequin titles to its MyiLibrary e-book platform. The titles will be both frontlist and backlist, nonfiction and fiction titles, and will be from multiple Harlequin imprints.
Using the MyiLibrary platform, library patrons can read content online, or download to a PC, laptop, or digital device.
The finalists for the Lambda Literary Awards were announced this week by the Lambda Literary Foundation (LLF) in Los Angeles. The awards celebrate achievement in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) writing for books published in 2012. Winners will be announced in 22 categories during a ceremony on June 3, 2013, at The Great Hall at Cooper Union, 7 East Seventh Street, New York City 10003. Tickets are on sale now. [2]
For 2013, 687 books were submitted for consideration from 332 publishers. The list of finalists is available on LLF website [3].
The 25th annual Triangle Awards, honoring lesbian and gay fiction, nonfiction, and poetry published in 2012, will be presented on April 25, 2013, at the Tishman Auditorium of the New School (66 West 12th Street in New York City) at 7:00 p.m. The ceremony is free and open to the public, with a reception to follow. Also to be honored at the April 25 ceremony are John D’Emilio, the 2013 recipient of the Bill Whitehead Award for Lifetime Achievement, and NEA Director of Literature Ira Silverberg, who will be presented with the Publishing Triangle’s Leadership Award.
