World Book Night Countdown: Four Weeks Out

As the April 23^rd celebration of World Book Night [1] approaches, U.S. Executive Director Carl Lennertz [2] is issuing weekly updates and reminders to volunteer givers, bookstores and libraries, and the publishing community.

This week’s countdown includes confirmation that James Patterson will be on CBS This Morning on Friday, April 19. Patterson is also joining bookseller and author Ann Patchett at Parnassus Books [3] on the eve of World Book Night for one of 12 author events scheduled for the Monday, April 22, Kick Off Celebrations. Three WBN Poetry Nights have been added as well as a WBN Theater Evening in conjunction with the Looking Glass Theater production of Still Alice in Chicago.

Also confirmed are a recorded interview with Lennertz to run on 100 local NPR stations the week of April 15 and a WBN story in the April issue of American Way magazine. More media updates will be provided next week. “There’s a lot in motion,” said Lennertz.

Givers, booksellers, and libraries are also receiving regular e-mail updates, notably featuring links to the WBN Resources section [1] to download signs, bookmarks, press release templates, and more. Booksellers have been mailed WBN book stickers for regular edition displays, and posters have been sent to stores and libraries that have requested them.

Special guests will be in attendance at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, for a celebration at Association of American Publishers offices at 71 Fifth Avenue, 2^nd floor, in New York City. All book industry folks welcome.
