The 2010 National Book Award Winners Announced

The winners of the 2010 National Book Awards were announced tonight, November 17, at the National Book Foundation's 61st National Book Awards Ceremony and Benefit Dinner at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

This year's winners are:

Fiction
Jaimy Gordon, Lord of Misrule (McPherson & Co.)

Nonfiction
Patti Smith, Just Kids (Ecco, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers) – A February 2010 Indie Notables Title

Poetry
Terrance Hayes, Lighthead (Penguin Books)

Young People's Literature
Kathryn Erskine, Mockingbird (Philomel Books, a division of Penguin Young Readers Group) – A Summer 2010 Children's Indie Next List Recommendation

The ceremony also featured the presentation of the National Book Foundation's Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters to Tom Wolfe and the presentation of the Foundation's Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community to Sesame Street’s Joan Ganz Cooney.
