ABACUS-10 Online Survey Now Live

On Friday, June 3, ABA bookstore members received a special e-mail announcing that the ABACUS-10 surveying process had begun.

The e-mail, from information analyst Martha Love of the National Association of College Stores' (NACS) OnCampus Research, had the subject line “ABACUS10 Survey STARTS TODAY” and included information on how to participate in the survey, a link to the secure and confidential online electronic form, and the bookseller’s survey I.D. number for logging into the survey.

The ABACUS-10 survey deadline is August 15.

This year’s survey is implementing significant changes, many the result of feedback and suggestions of the indie booksellers on ABA’s ABACUS Task Force, which met via conference call in April. Several new questions have been added to the survey, and, as a result, ABACUS-10 will provide key new criteria for comparisons and analysis in the survey results.

The individualized reports analyze a store’s financial results, including comparisons with other businesses based on multiple criteria (such as sales level, store size, and community type) in addition to year-to-year trending information.

The survey results and individualized reports are provided free to all ABACUS-10 participants.

A detailed summary of the ABACUS-10 data will be available for purchase by both ABA members that do not participate in this year’s study and non-members. Non-participating ABA member stores will be able to purchase the report at a discount.

Importantly, booksellers will be submitting their information to ABACUS via a completely secure and confidential electronic form, and, once submitted, data is only accessible to Love, as the OnCampus Research staff person responsible for the survey.

Booksellers with questions about submitting data to the survey can contact Love at OnCampus Research via e-mail. Booksellers who have general questions about ABACUS can contact ABA COO Len Vlahos via e-mail or at (800) 637-0037 ext. 6650.
