Announcing the Fall 2006 Book Sense Children's Picks

The Fall 2006 Book Sense Children's Picks list can now be previewed online. Independent bookstores with Book Sense will begin receiving the Children's Picks fliers, which are being mailed directly from the printer, during the week of August 28. Additional copies may be requested via e-mail to lindaf@bookweb.org.

The fall list is the result of the widespread participation of independent booksellers nationwide, and the Book Sense team extends gratitude and thanks to all who nominated titles.

As ABA works to compile a showcase of Book Sense-related images, booksellers are encouraged to send in photos of their displays featuring selections from this Picks list throughout the fall. These images are a great addition to the presentations Book Sense makes to publishers about the program. Photos may be in print or digital format. Digital photos, approximately 3" x 5" and 300 dpi, saved as JPEG or TIFF files, should be e-mailed to Christine Babcock at chris@bookweb.org. Multiple pictures may be sent as a stuffed file (.sit). PDF or ZIP files should not be sent, but photos saved on a ZIP disk are acceptable.

Looking ahead, Friday, August 11, is the deadline for the Halloween Top Ten Book Sense Picks, which Book Sense will be compiling in collaboration with the Association of American Publishers and "Get Caught Reading." This is always a fun list -- which last run ranged from Chuck Palahniuk's Haunted to Frank Was a Monster Who Wanted to Dance by Keith Graves. Nominated titles may be either hardcover or paperback, frontlist or backlist, adult or children's titles.

In addition, Book Sense is seeking for nominations for an upcoming Book Sense History Top Ten list to be published in conjunction with The History Channel programming on great empires.

Nominations may be sent in an e-mail, including just a few sentences about the title, to Book Sense Picks Editor-in-Chief Dan Cullen at dan@booksense.com or through a convenient Web form.
