Barefoot Books Fills Shoes With Champagne for 10th Anniversary

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Book Sense publisher partner and children's book publisher, Barefoot Books, the homegrown project of two mothers, Tessa Strickland and Nancy Traversy. With previous careers in publishing and management consulting, respectively, the two founded the company in the U.K. in 1993, publishing 10 cross-cultural picture books with no other staff. The achievements of Barefoot Books, which employs a team of about 30 working out of offices in Bath, England, and Cambridge, Massachusetts, now include an award-winning list of over 300 titles; a range of gift anthologies, audio books, prints, and partyware; and a flagship own-brand store in Cambridge's Porter Square.

In its second decade, Barefoot Books will move its business office closer to the bookstore in Cambridge, expand the store's author and craft events, and publish more books from artists and authors around the world and across generations.

At the upcoming BookExpo America at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Barefoot Books is hosting an anniversary party in its booth, #1714, on Friday, May 30, from 4:30 p.m. until the exhibit hall closes. -- Nomi Schwartz
