BEA Registration Booklet On the Way
Members of the book industry should be on the lookout for the BookExpo America event program and registration booklet, which should arrive by mail soon. The booklet contains information about all facets of the show, including educational programs, special events, author appearances, autographing, a registration form, and more. The BEA trade show runs from Friday, June 1, to Sunday, June 3, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. This year, for the first time, the American Booksellers Association's full day of education and the Celebration of Bookselling will both be held on Thursday, May 31, at Hotel ABA, the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, in Brooklyn, New York.
When registering for BEA via the booklet or online, ABA-member booksellers should be sure to check "ABA Bookstore Member" under Registration Options. (A member number is required.) In addition, member booksellers who plan to take part in ABA's free full day of education and the "What Are You Reading?" Breakfast and the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression Lunch on Thursday must check off the appropriate boxes on the BEA registration form or register via BookWeb.org.
ABA's programming begins at Hotel ABA on Wednesday afternoon, May 30, with a "Welcome to Brooklyn" kickoff event, featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning author and former Brooklynite, David McCullough, author of 1776 and The Great Bridge (S&S), followed by a series of walking tours of literary Brooklyn led by some of the boroughs many authors. Tours will end with "A Taste of Brooklyn" Reception at historic Borough Hall, across the street from Hotel ABA. (Watch for details in the coming weeks.)
Registration for this year's Hotel ABA is solely through ABA's trade website, BookWeb.org; however, rooms are currently almost completely sold out. Owners and staff of ABA member stores who have not yet registered for Hotel ABA - Brooklyn should do so immediately. In addition, those booksellers who have reserved a hotel room in Hotel ABA- Brooklyn but are no longer planning on attending are asked to please contact Margaret Nafz as soon as possible so that the room can be offered to another bookseller on the waiting list. Any questions about Hotel ABA should also be addressed to Nafz.
