MPBA to Honor Regional Book Award Winners

The Mountains and Plains Booksellers Association will present its Regional Book Awards at a banquet at the Marriott Denver Tech Center in Denver, Colorado, on March 20.

The 2004 MPBA Regional Book Award winners are:

  • Land That Moves, Land That Stands Still, Kent Nelson (Viking), for fiction;
  • Hawks Rest: A Season in the Remote Heart of Yellowstone, Gary Ferguson (National Geographic), for nonfiction;
  • Birds of Prey in the American West, photos by Tom Vezo, text by Richard L. Glinski (Rio Nuevo Press), in the Arts category;
  • Creation of the Teton Landscape, David D. Love et al. (Grand Teton Natural History Association), for Regional Reference; and
  • Enduring Wisdom: Sayings From American Indians, Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve (Holiday House), in the Children's category.

WNBA Announces Pannell Award Nominees

On Monday, February 16, the Women's National Book Association announced the nominees for this year's Lucile Micheels Pannell Award.

The nominees in the children's specialty store category are:

  • Booktenders Children's Bookstore, Doylestown, Pennsylvania
  • The Children's Bookstore, Baltimore, Maryland
  • Dragonwings Bookstore, Waupaca, Wisconsin

  • Hobbit Hall Children's Bookstore, Roswell, Georgia
  • Kid's Center, Tucson, Arizona
  • A Likely Story, Plano, Texas
  • Mrs. Nelson's Toy and Book Shop, La Verne, California.

The nominees in the general store category are:

  • Blue Willow Bookshop, Houston, Texas
  • BookPeople Bookstore, Austin, Texas
  • Oblong Books and Music, Millerton, New York
  • Sparta Bookshop, Sparta, New Jersey
  • UConn Co-op, Storrs, Connecticut

The winners will be announced at BookExpo America 2004 in Chicago. Each recipient will receive a check for $1000 and a framed piece of original art by a children's book illustrator.
