Ingram to Distribute Cambridge University Press

Under an agreement announced this week, Ingram will manage all warehousing and physical fulfillment for Cambridge University Press in the U.S., starting June 1, 2012.  Cambridge will continue to provide all order processing and customer service from its operations in New York.

“By using Ingram’s full range of publisher solutions — physical and digital distribution, inventory management and printing to create a new U.S. model, Cambridge can focus time and resources on the best content for today’s dynamic market,” said Skip Prichard, president and CEO of the Ingram Content Group. “Ingram is pleased to have a key role in Cambridge’s future.”

S&S to Handle Sales and Distribution for World Almanac

Simon & Schuster has signed an agreement with The World Almanac to sell and distribute World Almanac trade book products. This summer, Simon & Schuster will begin selling 2013 trade editions of World Almanac titles, including The World Almanac and Book of Facts and The World Almanac for Kids. Simon & Schuster previously distributed World Almanac products from 2006 through 2009.

Andruetto and Sís Named Hans Christian Andersen Award Winners

María Teresa Andruetto from Argentina and Peter Sís from the Czech Republic have been named the winners of the 2012 Hans Christian Andersen Awards for author and illustrator, respectively.

The Hans Christian Andersen Award is given biennially by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) to a living author and illustrator whose complete works are judged to have made lasting contributions to children’s literature.

The Andersen medals and diplomas will be presented to Andruetto and Sís at the IBBY Congress in London, on Saturday, August 25, 2012. 

Lambda Literary Award Finalists Announced

The finalists for the 24th Lambda Literary Awards were announced this week in Los Angeles by the Lambda Literary Foundation (LLF).  Books from mainstream publishers and academic presses, long-established and new LGBT publishers, as well as from emerging publish-on-demand technologies, make up the 119 finalists for the “Lammys.” 

The awards celebrate achievement in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) writing for books published in 2011. Winners will be announced on Monday evening, June 4, in New York at the CUNY Graduate Center (365 Fifth Avenue) with an after-party at Slate (54 West 21st Street).

Steven Millhauser Wins The Story Prize

On March 21, Steven Millhauser was named the winner of The Story Prize for his collection We Others (Knopf). The other finalists for The Story Prize were Don DeLillo (The Angel Esmeralda, Scribner) and Edith Pearlman (Binocular Vision, Lookout Books). All three books include new and selected stories from several decades’ worth of work.

At the Wednesday event, the three authors read from and discussed their story collections with Larry Dark, director of The Story Prize, before the founder of the prize, Julie Lindsey, announced Millhauser as the winner of the $20,000 award. As runners-up, DeLillo and Pearlman each receive $5,000.
