Call Goes Out for 2011 Pannell Nominations

The Women’s National Book Association (WNBA) is seeking nominations for the 2011 Pannell Awards, honoring bookstores in the U.S. that excel at inspiring interest in reading and creatively bringing books and young people together.

WNBA will present the annual Pannell Awards to two bookstores – one general bookstore and one children’s specialty bookstore at BookExpo America 2011 in New York. Each winner will receive a check for $1,000 and a framed piece of original art by a noted children’s book illustrator.

Nominations may be submitted to the Pannell jury either electronically or by sending hard copy materials by mail. Bookstores may nominate themselves.

Nominations should include:

  • The name, address, and phone number of the bookstore
  • The name and e-mail address of a contact person at the store
  • A brief reason (a sentence or two) describing why the store is deserving of the Pannell Award
  • The nominator’s name and affiliation to the nominated store

Nominations should be sent to the Pannell chair, Valerie Tomaselli, at VTomaselli@mtmpublishing.com. The deadline for nominations is January 14, 2011.

Last year’s Pannell winners were The Green Toad Bookstore in Oneonta, New York, in the general category and Little Shop of Stories in Decatur, Georgia, in the children’s category. Honorable Mention in the General Bookstore category was awarded to Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park, Washington.
