Google Login Now Featured on IndieCommerce Sites

Customers visiting ABA member stores’ IndieCommerce websites can now log in using their Google Accounts.

On the log-in page and block, instead of entering a store username and password, customers can choose a link to “Sign in with your Google Account.”  This will also authorize them for the sale of Google eBooks™ and negate the need to go through the “Connect your Google Account” screen later.

Customers who are not logged in at the point of checkout will also be prompted to sign in with Google, rather than to connect their Google Account.

Among the advantages to having Google Login on IndieCommerce sites:

  • Customers no longer need to remember a separate username and password for the store website.
  • Customers no longer need to create an account on the store site if they don’t have one.
  • If customers are already logged in on Google, all they need to do is click the “Sign in with Google” link to log into a store site. There’s no need to re-enter a username and password.
  • Google Login works on mobile devices as well as on desktops.
  • Order admin comments will now show exactly which Google Account activated a Google eBook purchase.

To use Google Login, IndieCommerce stores must be using their own domain name; stores using yourstorename.indiebound.com cannot use Google Login because of the way Google’s underlying technology works.  Stores using a subdomain of their own domain, such as shop.yourstorename.com, can use Google Login. Google Login is not available until sites are live on IndieCommerce and fully set up to sell Google eBooks.

Customers who are more comfortable using their existing username and password on IndieCommerce sites may continue to do so.  Google Login simply provides a new option for logging into a store website, one that makes the process of purchasing Google eBooks faster and easier for customers.
