Indie Bookstore to Once Again Grace Queen Anne Neighborhood
In February, the Queen Anne Book Company will open its doors to the residents of Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood, which has been without an independent bookstore since Queen Anne Books closed in October of last year.
The bookstore’s opening was influenced, in part, by outcries from the local community.
The new owners are long-time neighborhood residents Judy and Krjin de Jonge and Janis Segress, who will return to her old neighborhood after serving as head buyer for Eagle Harbor Book Company. Segress will also serve as Queen Anne Book Company’s manager.
Queen Anne Books, which served the community for close to 15 years, was sold by Patti McCall in early 2012 to Katherine Hershey, who decided to leave the book business late last year.
Some of the former store’s staff will be joined by some new faces, when the store reopens. “The whole staff is thrilled to continue the book business both in its traditional and changing forms: the selling of paper and ink books plus e-readers and e-books,” said Segress.
The bookstore will also feature monthly book groups, new book release parties, a frequent buyer award program, personalized book buying assistance, as well as local and national author events.
