MBA Appoints New Executive Director
On Friday, October 29, the Midwest Booksellers Association announced the appointment of Carrie Obry as the organization’s new executive director. Obry, who most recently was an acquisitions editor for Llewellyn Worldwide, will replace Susan Walker, who announced in June that she would be leaving.
In his announcement of the appointment, MBA President Chris Livingston, of The Book Shelf in Winona, Minnesota, noted that Obry brings more than 10 years of experience in the book industry to her new position. In addition to her work at Llewellyn, she has been an editor for Sourcebooks and Aspen Publishers and has worked as an independent contractor on editing, consulting, and writing projects.
“The Board was impressed by Carrie’s energy and commitment to independent bookselling,” said Livingston. “She brings the technical and communications skills needed, along with new ideas and a thoughtful approach toward the organization. Her leadership skills and eagerness to work closely with all of the membership are qualities that will contribute a great deal to the association.”
Obry will begin her job on December 27. Walker will remain at MBA until January 7 to ensure a smooth transition.
