Palo Alto Books Inc. Changes Location
After 50-plus years at the Stanford Shopping Center, San Francisco's Books Inc. moved one of its locations to the nearby Town & Country Village shopping center, which offers a mix of locally owned and national stores. The new 4,000-square-foot location is the same size as the previous store, but in a shopping center with more local flavor, said Margie Scott Tucker.
"Stanford had become very much a national brand shopping center," said Scott Tucker. "Town & Country offered much more of an opportunity to be part of the local community."
The transition went "as smoothly as anything that requires construction," she said. The former location closed at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, and the new one opened February 1. Customers lined up before the 9:00 a.m. opening to explore the new store, which is across the street from the Palo Alto high school. Books Inc. will hold a grand opening at some point this month and will begin building its events calendar in March.
Books Inc. has 11 locations under the Books Inc. name in San Francisco, Alameda, Mountain View, Burlingame, and Palo Alto, as well as Compass Books and Bzinc at the San Francisco International Airport and Compass Books & Cafe at the Downtown Disney District® in Anaheim.
"People have been telling us how very glad they are that we're here," said Scott Tucker. "And we're very happy to be in a much more community oriented environment." --Karen Schechner
