Registration Begins Friday for Advanced Seminars at Wi8
Monday, Janurary 21. Due to an extremely strong response, registration for the Advanced Seminars at Winter Institute 8 is now closed.
Today, the American Booksellers Association is announcing a new Winter Institute 8 educational feature: Two advanced seminars, led by successful innovators and accomplished thought leaders, that are limited to just 30 booksellers each on a first-come, first-served basis.
Booksellers who are registered for Wi8 can fill out an online form starting tomorrow, Friday, January 18, at noon EST to have the opportunity to attend one of the two seminars. One seminar will be led by bestselling author Daniel Pink — one of Wi8’s two featured plenary speakers — and the other seminar will be led by Barnett C. Helzberg, Jr., founder and chair of the Helzberg Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program (HEMP) and former chair of the board for Helzberg Diamonds. Helzberg will be joined at the seminar by two successful entrepreneurs who have worked within the framework of the HEMP program. (See seminar descriptions below.)
Each of the seminars will be capped at 30 booksellers, and participants for each will be selected at random from the first 60 booksellers who submit the seminar registration form.
“Recognizing that one of the greatest educational resources for booksellers at the Winter Institute is the unique opportunity for peer-to-peer interaction, discussion, and collaboration, we are extremely grateful to Daniel Pink and Barnett Helzberg for their leading these two seminars,” said Dan Cullen, ABA Content Officer. “As successful innovators and accomplished thought leaders regarding the keys to business growth and development, both of them will, we know, facilitate engaging and productive sessions.”
Here are descriptions of the two seminars:
-
Daniel Pink Advanced Seminar - Saturday, 2/23/13, from 4:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
If you have been inspired and informed by Daniel Pink in the past, you will want to attend this advanced seminar, facilitated by Pink and featuring peer-to-peer discussion on the real-life implications of his new book, To Sell Is Human: The Surprising Truth About Moving Others (Riverhead).
-
Helzberg Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program (HEMP) Advanced Seminar - Monday, 2/25/13, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
How do entrepreneurs survive? How do they thrive? This seminar will feature Barnett Helzberg, founder of the nationally acclaimed HEMP program and two successful independent business owners who have benefited from HEMP’s unique mentoring opportunity. Laura Laiben went from a career in law to opening the Culinary Center of Kansas City, and Joe Runyan from working for Sprint to opening Hangers Cleaners, an eco-friendly dry cleaning business.
Registration for the seminars will be live tomorrow at noon EST at https://wi8.bookweb.org/advanced-seminar-registration and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Seminar assignments will be chosen randomly. If you are assigned to one of the seminars, you will be contacted in February via e-mail and will be sent a confirmation. Please print and bring this confirmation with you to Wi8 so that you will be able to present it at the seminar.
