IndieCommerce stores that have not signed up to participate in the Kobo eBook program must do so by January 7 in order to ensure that there is no interruption in their ability to sell digital content. Also on the 7th, stores already signed up for the Kobo program that have not indicated a time for the switch from Google eBooks to Kobo eBooks will be switched automatically.

Fifteen-minute modules that stores can use to train staff to handsell and respond to customer questions about the Kobo Mini and Glo were added this week to BookWeb’s Kobo Booksellers Resource page.

ABA member stores that sold the Kobo Mini for $49 on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday must report their sales by this Friday, December 7, in order to receive the $30 rebate for each Mini sold.

Between Small Business Saturday and the Thanks for Shopping Indie and Kobo Mini promotions, many ABA members were reporting increases in holiday weekend sales and a renewed sense of appreciation for locally owned businesses among their customers.

ABA is warning stores participating in the Kobo partnership that there could be unintended negative consequences to using a third-party e-mail service when distributing promotional links to customers.

As ABA members began receiving their shipments of Kobo eReaders earlier this month, a number of stores launched creative and personalized promotions to spread the word to customers.

Thanks to Algonquin Books, customers who purchase a Kobo Glo or Mini from an ABA member store from November 19 – 26 will receive a promotional code for a free download of “The Art Forger,” by B.A. Shapiro, the #1 Indie Next List Great Read for November.

Kobo is offering special $49 pricing for Kobo Minis sold on Friday, November 23, and Saturday, November 24. ABA member stores that sell the Mini for $49 during the two-day promotion will receive a $30 rebate for each Kobo Mini sold.
