Monkey See, Monkey Do Featured

Kim Krug, who opened Monkey See, Monkey Do, in 2009 with her mother, Kathleen Skoog, was featured on Buffalonews.com. The Clarence, New York bookstore recently received a national honor, the Women's National Book Association Pannell Award, for bringing books and young people together. Krug’s vision was to open more than just a bookstore, but a place to inspire creativity and learning – offering summer camps, literary activities, and book-themed birthday parties.

“They're not just reading a book and going on to the next,” Krug said. “They're writing about that book, they're discussing that book, they're doing an activity based on that book. We feel we've really helped spark that excitement in reading and learning again.”

Café opens in Mysterious Galaxy

On Wednesday, Catalina Coffee & Café opened its second location inside Retondo Beach’s Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore. This week, the café is offering complementary baked goods, and a chance for customers to meet new staff.

The menu will be slightly different from its main location, and will serve beer and wine in addition to the standard fare of sandwiches, salads, breakfasts, and baked treats.

A Decade of Duck’s Cottage

Last week, Duck’s Cottage Coffee & Books celebrated ten years in business. The store recently sent out an email newsletter to its customers with a video slideshow of some of the past decade's highlights.

“We can't thank you- our customers- enough for helping us reach this milestone,” read the newsletter. “Whether you are a year round resident of Duck, an Outer Banks local, or a visitor we only get to see once or twice a year, please know how much we truly appreciate your patronage and support of this independent, locally owned business. We would not be where we are today without you- the best customers in the world!”
