Quail Ridge Owner Plans to Sell Business
Nancy Olson, owner of Quail Ridge Books & Music in Raleigh, North Carolina, announced on Tuesday that she is planning to find a new owner for the bookstore, as reported by Triangle Business Journal.
Olson opened the bookstore in 1984 and moved it to the Ridgewood shopping center in 1994. She has not indicated whether a buyer has been identified, but did say that she plans to remain an adviser to the new owner, according to a staff member at the store.
Olson has hired the Bookstore Training Group of Paz & Associatesto help broker the sale.
Napa’s Copperfield’s Reopens
Copperfield’s Books reopened its Napa location on Friday, and it is already “humming with customers,” reported the Napa Valley Register.
Copperfield’s co-owner and founder Paul Jaffe said the store moved from its 9,701-square-foot location because it had more space than it needed. Manager Dave Rawson said that the store downsized its inventory in order to fit in the new 4,000-square-foot space by returning older books that had not sold in some time and cutting several less-popular magazine titles.
Copperfield’s was founded in 1981 and has six locations in the Napa and Sonoma counties.
Centuries and Sleuths Featured
Centuries and Sleuths, a history and mystery bookstore in Forest Park, Illinois, was featured in the Chicago Tribune earlier this month. In addition to participating in the town’s Halloween-themed festivities, including a casket race, the bookstore was applauded for its literary contribution to the area.
“Centuries & Sleuths is among the best in the land,” wrote columnist Rick Kogan. “Its oak bookcases are filled with best-sellers and surprises. It is a place for lingering in two Windsor chairs, a rocking chair and a church pew.”
Owner Augie Aleksy was also singled out for his passion and showmanship, which customers can see by attending literary club meetings and theatrical presentations that the store hosts. “He is ever enthusiastic and smart, and he loves books,” wrote Kogan.
