Book Sense 'Booked for the Holidays' in The New Yorker
The December 8 issue of The New Yorker, which goes on sale December 1, will include the latest Book Sense insert, "Booked for the Holidays." The special 12-page feature presents the holiday picks of independent booksellers, which were drawn from the November/December Book Sense 76 list. (To view the full 76, click here.) The insert will also include publishers' picks, and the November/December Book Sense 76 Top Ten will be featured in a full-page ad.
The Book Sense insert, which was written by Douglas Chilcott, notes that "Choosing the best from the staggering list of new books published every year can be challenging, but the resident sages at your local independent bookstore can help." The piece features Book Sense bookseller picks and store photos, which were selected by the magazine. Throughout, booksellers name their favorite titles for the holiday season, and blurbs are included from the November/December Book Sense 76 list.
Books on the Bluff in Townsend, Georgia is one of the bookstores included in The New Yorker insert and owner Virginia Hobson Hicks was elated. "I love it. I'm honored to death," she said. "It's wonderful that The New Yorker recognizes Book Sense, and I'm charmed that a small Southern bookstore is included. [The insert] will spike sales from California to Maine."
