Book Sense Welcomes Two New Publisher Partners
Book Sense is very pleased to welcome Independent Publishers Group and Toby Press as the newest members of the ever-expanding family of Publisher Partners.
Independent Publishers Group (IPG) was founded in 1971 as the first master distribution company of its kind. It was "reborn" in 1987 when it was purchased by Chicago Review Press and has since then been one of the fastest growing companies in the book business.
The mission of IPG is to provide efficient and economical distribution to the entire book trade for quality publishers of any size, allowing them to compete in the marketplace with titles from the industrys largest publishers. IPG publishers include African American Images, Allen & Unwin, Amherst Media, ECW Press, Hill Street Press, Interweave Press, Invisible Cities Press, Santa Monica Press, and many others.
Consisting primarily of non-fiction adult titles, IPGs list also specializes in childrens, computer, and Spanish language books. Included is the Small Press Selection catalog, which is designed for high quality small publishers, typically with one or two titles, and the Paul & Co. list of academic publishers, which IPG purchased in 2001. A complete list of titles can be seen at www.ipgbook.com.
The Toby Press started in London in 1999, and moved its operations to Connecticut in 2001. Specializing in commercial and literary fiction, Toby has already brought out an impressive list of titles from a range of well-known writers. The houses titles include Saul Bellows Editors, Keith Botsfords The Mothers, and Naomi Ragens Chains Around Grass, as well as new editions of her best-selling early works including Jephtes Daughter. Toby has also published the debuts of American writers Joshua Barkan, Crystal Wilkinson, and Samantha Dunn (whose Failing Paris was nominated for a PEN Award), as well as an impressive catalogue of works in translation, including Yasmina Khadra, Anna Enquist, Roman Petri, and many others. The latest edition of the Toby Press Review will be included in the Book Sense April white box mailing.
