Connect With Online Shoppers on Google
The American Booksellers Association, Above the Treeline, and Google are partnering to promote independent bookstores online through Google Local Shopping.
Google Local Shopping is Google’s effort to bridge the gap between online and in-store shopping. Customers browsing for a product through Google can now instantly see whether that item is in stock at a nearby store. With ABA and Above the Treeline, Google is working to enable independent bookstores to appear in those results.
Stores that opt in to Google Local Shopping will have their inventory, synced through Above the Treeline, appear in all Google Shopping results, from Google Product Search on the desktop to Mobile Product Search and Google Shopper for Android. And bookstores that advertise through Google AdWords can add local availability to their locally focused ads.
ABA, Above the Treeline, and Google are providing incentives to any bookstores that opt to participate in Google Local Shopping. Bookstores that sync their inventory through Above the Treeline or are IndieCommerce users can receive a $250 incentive for sharing their inventory with Google. Other stores that want to share data can receive a $100 incentive. There is no cost for participation.
Google representatives will be on hand at Winter Institute 6 to meet booksellers to discuss this partnership during the Consultation Station from 2:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 21. Google Local Shopping is also generously sponsoring wi-fi access for all Winter Institute attendees.
For more information or to schedule an appointment with Google at the Consultation Station, contact Paige Poe, ABA marketing manager, via e-mail or at (800) 637-0037, ext. 6668.
