History Channel Giving Away a Trip Through History in Latest Book Sense Partnership
On Thursday, March 13, Book Sense, HarperCollins, and the History Channel launched their latest national marketing program for independent bookstores with Book Sense. Designed to tie in with the April 14 History Channel broadcast of the documentary based on the book April 1865: The Month That Saved America, by Jay Winik (Perennial), the cooperative promotion runs until the end of April.
"We are extremely excited about the premiere of [the documentary] April 1865, The Month That Saved America and the opportunity to bring this great book -- and this significant part of our history -- to life on The History Channel," said Judy Klein Frimer, director, brand enhancement for The History Channel. "What makes this event even more compelling, is the ability to partner with local booksellers to turn this television event into an exciting reading event for their customers -- and our viewers. We are delighted to have been able to expand our relationship with the independent bookstores."
The History Channel's April 1865: The Month That Saved America examines perhaps the most crucial 30 days in the history of the U.S. -- the final days of the Civil War. From interviews with top Civil War historians to historical reenactments of significant events, the documentary brings to television a detailed description of a remarkable time in history.
Participating booksellers should have just received in-store promotional materials, including an in-store counter easel and poster. Customers enter the promotion at http://www.historychannel.com/booksense, where they enter to "Win a Trip Through History," a trip along the Civil War Trail. Bookstores can promote the contest to their customers by linking to the sweepstakes URL from their e-newsletters, as well as mentioning it in their printed newsletters.
Additionally, participating bookstores are encouraged to enter an in-store display contest for a chance to win their choice of a trip to historic Charleston, South Carolina, or an in-store appearance by author Jay Winik. Photos of April 1865 displays should be sent to Book Sense Marketing Associate Director Meg Smith by the end of April, either by mail or by e-mail to meg@booksense.com. A winner will be picked at random. (Photos can be sent to Smith at ABA, 828 South Broadway, Tarrytown, New York 10591.)
