Nominations Sought for 2012 ABC Best Books for Children Catalog

The ABC Children’s Group at ABA is seeking title recommendations from ABA member booksellers for the fall 2012 ABC Best Books for Children Catalog, the premier consumer catalog for the children’s book industry.  The ABC Best Books catalog includes more than 200 fully vetted titles for children and teens, gathered from indie booksellers at bookstores across the nation.

Booksellers are encouraged to send nominations to the special email address abccatalog@bookweb.org.  The deadline for submissions is Monday, July 2.

Recommendations should provide as much bibliographic information (title, author, ISBN, publisher, price, age range, format, pub date) as possible. A short blurb in support of the book is welcome but not necessary.  The catalog will feature books that were published between January and October 2012 and will not include holiday titles, as the catalog is meant to be used year-round.

The cover of the 2012 ABC Best Books for Children catalog, revealed during the opening plenary of the ABA’s ABC Children’s Institute last week at BookExpo America, was chosen by the ABC Advisory Council in late May.  It features art from William Joyce’s The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers, a division of Simon & Schuster.  Joyce’s book, which will be published later this month, is the story that inspired his Oscar-winning short film of the same name.

The 2012 catalog is scheduled to land in stores in early October; a catalog order form will be available to ABA member stores in July.

Booksellers with questions about this year’s catalog should contact ABC Group Manager Shannon O’Connor via e-mail or at (800) 637-0037, ext. 6651.
