Obituary: Herbert Joseph Houlihan

Herbert Joseph Houlihan, a past president of the American Booksellers Association, died on April 11, 2012, in Lexington, Kentucky.

Houlihan owned the Morris Book Shop in Lexington from 1946 - 1978 and was vice president of Wallace’s Bookstores from 1976 - 1988. He was a long-time member of ABA and served as president of the association from 1953 - 1955. He was also publisher, with Ed Houlihan, of the Henry Clay Press, a regional, historical press.

Houlihan is survived by his wife, Betty, and children Thomas Coleman Houlihan, Katherine Parks, Mary Elizabeth Shehata, Lucy Hammond, and their families.

His life was celebrated at a mass on Monday, April 16, at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Cathedral of Christ the King or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
