Indies Choice Book Awards Deadline March 31

Reserve now for the Celebration! The owners and staff at all ABA member stores have less than a week remaining to cast their ballots for the winners of the 2010 Indies Choice Book Awards. All votes must be received by midnight on Wednesday, March 31.

City Lights Named PW's Bookseller of the Year

San Francisco's City Lights Bookstore, founded by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, has been chosen as Publishers Weekly's Bookseller of the Year for 2010.

Indies Choice Book Awards Voting Underway

The owners and staff at all ABA member stores are invited to cast their ballots online to choose the winners of the 2010 Indies Choice Book Awards. The winners, to be announced in April, will be honored at BookExpo America 2010 in New York City. The American Booksellers Association announced the finalists and opened voting on Monday, March 1.

Daniyal Mueenuddin Wins The Story PrizeThe winner of the sixth annual Story Prize was announced on March 3 at an awards ceremony in Manhattan. Debut writer Daniyal Mueenuddin accepted the prize for his collection In Other Rooms, Other Wonders (Norton), a book of eight connected stories set in southern Pakistan and centering around the estate of a feudal landowner.The other two finalists were Victoria Patterson (Drift, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) and Wells Tower (Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned, FSG).

American Independent Business Alliance to Hold International Conference The American Independent Business Alliance will be holding its second international conference in Tampa, Florida, from April 8 - 11. The local host for the gathering, which is aimed at business owners and others seeking to develop, or already engaged in, a local Independent Business Alliance or Buy Indie/Local campaign, will be Inkwood Books co-owner Carla Jimenez of the Tampa Independent Business Alliance.

Publishers Weekly is seeking nominations for its Bookseller and Sales Rep of the Year awards to be presented this spring at BookExpo America in New York City. A nominee for Bookseller of the Year must operate a professional storefront retail bookstore in the U.S. and should excel in buying and vendor relations, marketing, handselling, customer care, community involvement, management-employee relations, merchandising, and business operations.
