2003 National Book Awards Finalists Announced

The 20 finalists for the National Book Foundation's 2003 National Book Awards (NBA) were announced on Wednesday, October 15. The winners will be announced on Wednesday, November 19, at a ceremony hosted by novelist Walter Mosley at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel in midtown Manhattan.

DBC Pierre Wins 2003 Man Booker Prize for Fiction

On Tuesday, October 14, Australian-born author DBC Pierre was named the winner of the 2003 Man Booker Prize for Fiction for his first novel, Vernon God Little, published in the U.K. by Faber & Faber and in the U.S. by Canongate.

Great Lakes Book Award Winners Announced

The winners of the 2003 Great Lakes Book Awards were recently announced by the Great Lakes Booksellers Association (GLBA). The winners are: Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides (Farrar Straus & Giroux and Picador USA) for Fiction; To Conquer the Air by James Tobin (The Free Press) in the General category; and Girl Wonder by Deborah Hopkinson, illustrated by Rich Widener (Atheneum) for Children’s Literature.

Lambda Literary Foundation Presents 2003 Lammies

The Lambda Literary Foundation has announced the winners of the 15th Annual Lambda Literary Awards, or "Lammies," which honor "the best and the brightest" in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered publishing. The awards were presented at a gala banquet and awards ceremony at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles on May 29 in conjunction with BookExpo America.

Audie Award Winners Announced

On May 30, the Audio Publishers Association announced the winners of the Eighth Annual Audie Awards at BookExpo America in Los Angeles. The Audies recognize excellence in audio publishing and were awarded in 27 categories at the Petersen Automotive Museum in L.A.

The BlackBoard Books of the Year Presented at BEA

BlackBoard African-American Bestsellers, Inc. has announced its 2003 Books of the Year. The awards, presented at this year's BookExpo America in Los Angeles and hosted by Cee Cee Michaela of the UPN series Girlfriends, recognize outstanding African-American writers of fiction, nonfiction, and children's books.
