MPBA Announces Regional Book Award Winners

The Mountains & Plains Booksellers Association (MPBA) has announced the winners of its annual Regional Book Awards, which are presented to outstanding books published in 2002 that are set in the Mountains and Plains region. The Regional Book Award Winners are:

The American Library Association announced the winners of its prestigious children's book awards on January 27, igniting a flood of orders for the selected titles, many of which were Book Sense 76 picks over the past year.

Nominate Your Handselling Favorites for Book Sense Book of the Year Now!

There is still time to nominate your handselling favorites for the 2003 Book Sense Book of the Year Awards (BSBY). Every current ABA-member bookstore is entitled to nominate five books in each category: Adult Fiction, Adult Nonfiction, Children's Literature, Illustrated Children's, Rediscovery, and Paperback Book of the Year. The Paperback category is open to both fiction and nonfiction titles.

National Book Critics Circle Award Finalists Announced

The nominees for this year's National Book Critics Circle Awards have been announced. The awards for the best book published in five categories -- fiction, nonfiction, biography/autobiography, poetry, and criticism -- will be presented at a ceremony on February 26 at the New School in New York City. The winners will be chosen by the 22-member National Book Critics Circle board.

The American Booksellers Association is currently accepting nominations of booksellers' handselling favorites for the 2003 Book Sense Book of the Year Awards (BSBY). All ABA member stores are eligible to vote for titles in the categories of Adult Fiction, Adult Nonfiction, Children's Literature, Illustrated Children's, Rediscovery, and -- new this year -- Paperback Book of the Year. The Paperback category is open to both fiction and nonfiction titles.

Speak Up! Now's the Time to Nominate Your Favorite Titles for the Book Sense Book of the Year

Resolve to start the New Year right by nominating the books you most enjoyed handselling and recommending to your customers in 2002 for the Book Sense Book of the Year Awards (BSBY). The 2003 BSBY Nomination Ballot is now available to all ABA member bookstores. (Stores do not have to be Book Sense participating stores to nominate titles.)

2002 National Book Award Winners Announced

Over 800 people gathered last night at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel for the 53rd annual National Book Awards Ceremony and Benefit Dinner. The formal gala was hosted by comedian and author Steve Martin, who quipped in his opening remarks that "the total number of authors [nominees] I've heard of totals two." By the end of the night, however, at least four authors had made a name for themselves by winning the prestigious NBA.

Nominations for Outstanding Children's Booksellers Wanted

The Women's National Book Association (WNBA) has announced its annual call for nominations of outstanding U.S. booksellers in the field of children's literature. From the nominations, two bookstores -- one general bookstore and one specialty children's store -- will be selected as winners of the Lucile Micheels Pannell Award to be presented at BookExpo America 2003.
