Lambda Literary Foundation Presents 2003 Lammies

The Lambda Literary Foundation has announced the winners of the 15th Annual Lambda Literary Awards, or "Lammies," which honor "the best and the brightest" in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered publishing. The awards were presented at a gala banquet and awards ceremony at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles on May 29 in conjunction with BookExpo America.

Audie Award Winners Announced

On May 30, the Audio Publishers Association announced the winners of the Eighth Annual Audie Awards at BookExpo America in Los Angeles. The Audies recognize excellence in audio publishing and were awarded in 27 categories at the Petersen Automotive Museum in L.A.

On Thursday, May 29, over 300 independent booksellers from around the U.S. converged in Los Angeles for the ABA Education Day, which included ABA's first annual "What Are You Reading Lunch." The day's numerous sessions were packed with prospective, novice, and veteran booksellers alike, each looking to enhance their bookselling skills. According to comments from a number of booksellers, the programming did not disappoint.

Barefoot Books Fills Shoes With Champagne for 10th Anniversary

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Book Sense publisher partner and children's book publisher, Barefoot Books, the homegrown project of two mothers, Tessa Strickland and Nancy Traversy. With previous careers in publishing and management consulting, respectively, the two founded the company in the U.K. in 1993, publishing 10 cross-cultural picture books with no other staff.

Beginning at BookExpo America, Wiley Publishing is offering booksellers free copies of a special BEA edition of Bookselling For Dummies.

Saul Williams to Host BookSense.com's BEA Poetry Slam

Saul Williams, author of several books, including , Said the Shotgun to the Head (MTV Books/Pocket Books), will host BookSense.com's first-ever Poetry Slam on Saturday, May 31, at BookExpo America. The contest offers a chance for aspiring poets to read and have their work judged by their peers, and the winning poem will be published on the BookSense.com Web site and in Bookselling This Week.
