More than 500 indie booksellers and guests from as far away as Norway and New Zealand are in Washington, D.C. , for ABA’s Sixth Annual Winter Institute. Here’s a look at some of the opening day events.

Here’s one last look at what’s in store for booksellers and visitors from as far away as New Zealand and Norway at next week’s Winter Institute.

ABA will honor NPR and its President and CEO, Vivian Schiller, at the evening reception that caps Wi6’s Legislative Day.  The reception, at the Library of Congress’ Madison Building, is co-sponsored by the Center for the Book and is open to all Wi6 attendees.

Representatives from Monsoon, a company that provides tools for online retailers, will be giving demonstrations of its software at the Wi6’s Consultation Station on Friday afternoon, January 21.

The Winter Institute will feature programming for children’s booksellers on Thursday, January 20, in Salon A/B.

Karen Mills, the head of the U.S. Small Business Administration, talks about some of the key steps SBA has taken to help small businesses over the last two years, the challenges facing Main Street businesses today, SBA’s new loan initiatives and online resources, and more. Mills will be interviewed by PBS NewsHour’s Jim Lehrer at the opening event at this month’s Winter Institute.

In less than two weeks, ABA’s Sixth Annual Winter Institute will be well underway in Washington, D.C. Here are some important logistical reminders for the more than 500 booksellers who will be in attendance.
