ABA Offers Emerging Leaders Scholarship

The American Booksellers Association has announced the creation of an Emerging Leaders Scholarship, covering the cost of airfare to Portland, Oregon, and up to a three-night hotel stay at the 2007 Winter Institute headquarters hotel, the DoubleTree Portland, Lloyd Center. Booksellers at ABA member stores who are committed to furthering the success of independent bookselling are encouraged to apply.

Winter Institute Registration Opens

The American Booksellers Association today announced the opening of registration for its Second Annual Winter Institute, to be held in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday and Friday, February 1 and 2, 2007. ABA member booksellers can now register for the Winter Institute's two full days of free programming, as well as make hotel reservations, through the association's trade website, BookWeb.org.

ABA Announces Plans for 2007 Winter Institute

Building on the success of this past January's inaugural event, the American Booksellers Association has announced plans to hold its Second Annual Winter Institute on Thursday and Friday, February 1 and 2, 2007, in Portland, Oregon.The 2007 Winter Institute will once again feature two full days of free educational programming for the owners and staff of ABA member stores, special events, and meal functions, as well as hotel accommodations at a great price.

A Chat With CBA President Paul McNally

The American Booksellers Association's Winter Institute, which was held in Long Beach, California, in January, drew hundreds of booksellers, as well as other industry professionals, from across the country and from as far away as Canada, Bermuda, and the U.K. Among the attendees was Paul McNally, president of the Canadian Booksellers Association and co-owner of the four McNally Robinson Booksellers in Canada.

Booksellers & Publishers Give Winter Institute Rave Reviews

The first annual American Booksellers Association Winter Institute concluded its two days of programming on Friday, January 27, and booksellers and publishers who attended overwhelmingly praised the event, which combined 25 educational sessions with social events and hours of networking and impromptu conversations. A total of 375 Booksellers from 44 states and the District of Columbia, as well as Canada and Bermuda attended the institute.

More than 130 booksellers answered an early wake-up call for the American Booksellers Association Winter Institute's 7:15 a.m. "What Are You Reading?" Breakfast. Patterned after the popular ABA lunchtime event at BookExpo America, the breakfast was an opportunity for many of the approximately 360 booksellers gathered in Long Beach for ABA's two-day education program to network and to share with colleagues some of the titles they are excited about.

Live From Long Beach -- ABA Winter Institute, Day 1

Beginning with an 8:30 a.m. session on "Budgeting & Monitoring," and continuing for almost 10 hours of programming, Day 1 of the first-annual American Booksellers Association Winter Institute kicked off on Thursday in Long Beach, California. More than 360 independent booksellers from approximately 200 stores are attending 25 educational sessions designed to offer a wide range of programming for booksellers at different levels of experience, as well as other meetings and social events.
