Deadlines Approach for Valentine's Top Ten & New Reading Group 76

Book Sense 76 Editor-in-chief Dan Cullen sends a big thanks to all the booksellers who took the time to send in nominations for the upcoming January/February Book Sense 76 list, which is being now being finalized. All of your contributions have made possible what already looks to be a great list.

Looking ahead, there are two key deadlines for new lists. The first is December 1 for the Book Sense Valentine's Day Top Ten. This is a follow-up to the Halloween Top Ten that we did in conjunction with the Association of American Publishers (AAP), and we will be doing other seasonal Top Tens with AAP in 2004. As was the case with the Halloween list, please send nominations for either frontlist or backlist, adult or children's titles. As Cullen noted to BTW, "This is a great initiative with AAP, and by focusing on such events as Halloween and Valentine's Day, we think Book Sense can offer independent booksellers a valuable in-store promotion opportunity."

In addition, Book Sense has begun work on the next Reading Group Suggestions Book Sense 76. Many booksellers have contacted us to relate how well the Reading Group list has worked in their stores, and our hope is that the new list can be even more effective. The procedure for compiling the list will be unchanged: Just send 10 to 15 of your favorite reading group favorites, especially those that might have been published in the past year. No need to rank them, or to send in a quote -- just e-mail the titles to Cullen at dan@booksense.com. We'll take care of the rest. The deadline is December 15.

All nominations can be sent to Cullen at dan@booksense.com or to the convenient Web nomination form at http://www.bookweb.org/read/6305.

Many thanks!
