Book Sense Welcomes New Publisher Partners
Book Sense is pleased to welcome three new Publisher Partners: Fordham University Press, Yorkville Press, and Cumberland House Publishing.
Founded in 1907, Fordham University Press publishes in the humanities and social sciences with strengths in philosophy, theology, American history, and literature. Fordham also publishes general interest books on New York and the Hudson Valley.
Among its bestselling backlist titles are Deconstruction in a Nutshell; Byzantine Theology; Under the Sidewalks of New York; and All Around The Town: Amazing Manhattan Facts and Curiosities. Fordham's fall 2003 list features The Rose Man of Sing Sing by James Morris; For Love of Lois by Ed Bliss; and A Century of Subways by Brian Cudahy.
Yorkville Press is a new publisher, formed earlier this year by industry veteran Kate Hartson. Hartson is president and publisher of the company, which takes its name from the Manhattan neighborhood where she grew up.
"Yorkville Press is a small company with a big company attitude," said Hartson. "We plan on publishing books in a variety of genres that reflect a sense of passion and commitment -- both the authors' for their stories and Yorkville's for publishing those books that inspire us."
Yorkville Press is presenting a total of nine titles in the fall; five backlist, which include illustrated gift books and children's books, and four new titles. They are: When Justice Prevails by C. Steven Yerrid; Henry the Steinway: A Star is Born by Sally Coveleskie and Peter Goodrich; Love Heels: Tales From Canine Companions for Independence by Patricia Dibsie; and I & Dog by The Monks of New Skete. A copy of the Yorkville Press catalog is included in the July white box mailing.
Cumberland House Publishing, founded in 1996 by veteran publisher/editor Ronald E. Pitkin, has made a name for itself with impressive lines of Civil War and military history titles, cookbooks, Southern fiction, and gift titles. CHP published Smokehouse Ham, Spoon Bread & Scuppernong Wine: The Folklore and Art of Appalachian Cooking by Joseph E. Dabney, which won the James Beard Foundation Cookbook of the Year Award and continues to be a strong seller. Recent New York Times bestsellers Why a Daughter Needs a Dad and Why a Son Needs a Dad, by Gregory E. Lang and daughter Meagan Lang, will be joined this fall by Why I Love Grandma and Why I Love Grandpa. Other highly anticipated fall titles include Right From the Heart: The ABC's of Reality in America by top-rated talk-radio host Phil Valentine and The Sitting Sisters by Martha Randolph Carr whose first novel, Wired, has been optioned for film.
Look for materials from these houses in upcoming white boxes, and watch this space for future announcements as still more publishers join the growing family of Book Sense Publisher Partners.
Cheers,
Mark
