Doing It Yourself Just Became Easier

The Bookseller Do-It-Yourself (DIY) toolbox for creating IndieBound and indie-inspired marketing materials is sporting a new look, a new feature, and a poster with a cool new summer design. The toolbox’s files, which can be used as is or be adapted to suit a bookstore’s needs, are open exclusively to ABA members.

Cool blue waves of water, and books, are featured in a new DIY poster and web graphic that encourage customers to “check out our new wave of exciting summer reads.”

Also new to the site is a prominent link to RedBubble, where booksellers who don’t have the option of working with a local printer can quickly order copies of some of their favorite DIY posters. In addition to  “Check Out Our New Wave,”  designs recently added to RedBubble include “Fire Up Your Imagination,”  “Keep Calm and Browse Inside,” and “Find Them Here, Buy Them Here, Keep Books Here.” RedBubble posters are available in three sizes and are printed on durable matte, water-proof stock.

To make it easier for booksellers to find just what they’re looking for, the DIY’s designs have been reorganized by topic — Awards, General, Holidays, IndieBound, Localism, Logos, Seasonal, Why Indies Matter, and World Book Night — and for each design there is a variety of formats, such as bookmarks, posters, web banners, and buttons. Past favorites can be found in the DIY’s Archive.

And, as always, the DIY Resources page offers a wealth of information for booksellers looking for tips on software, fonts, colors, or design, including tutorials for beginners, a free open-source design program with sophisticated features and tools, and more.

Booksellers with questions about any of the DIY’s designs should contact ABA Marketing Manager and Designer Greg Galloway.
