John Rubin Wants Booksellers to See Above the Treeline

In late February, Rubin Venture Consulting rolled out a new online software product, Above the Treeline, a tool meant to help bookstores improve finances by controlling inventory costs and increasing staffing efficiency. At the time, four booksellers were using the software; today, that number has grown to 12. The company's founder, John Rubin, told BTW that he has improved his product and is seeking to add as many new booksellers as he can. "[Above the Treeline] is going to improve your financial performance," he said.

Book Sense Welcomes New Publisher Partners

Book Sense is pleased to welcome three new Publisher Partners: Fordham University Press, Yorkville Press, and Cumberland House Publishing. Founded in 1907, Fordham University Press publishes in the humanities and social sciences with strengths in philosophy, theology, American history, and literature. Fordham also publishes general interest books on New York and the Hudson Valley.

Carnot USA Books Inks Distribution Deal With Continental Sales Carnot USA Books, a subsidiary of the French Carnot Group, will be distributed by Continental Sales Inc. beginning with the fall 2003 season. Carnot USA books offers original trade paperbacks and hardcovers, as well as nonfiction and fiction titles that focus on current events, crime and mystery, and the arts.

Coliseum Books Reopens New York's Coliseum Books is back. On Tuesday, June 17, the city's largest independent bookstore reopened, across from the New York Public Library and Bryant Park.

Bookseller Inspires Others to Lend Support to ABFFE

When Cammie Mannino, owner of Halfway Down the Stairs in Rochester, Michigan, encouraged booksellers to donate part of the proceeds from the sales of the new Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix to the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE), she spurred Betsey Detwiler, owner of Buttonwood Books & Toys in Cohasset, Massachusetts, to also allow customers to either donate 20 percent to ABFFE or their local schools.
