AOL Time Warner Drops Plan to Sell Book Division Media and publishing giant AOL Time Warner (AOLTW) has decided to drop the sale of its book publishing division after the company failed to find an attractive bid, as reported by Reuters. "Frankly, we didn't receive an offer that reflected the true value of the asset," AOLTW spokeswoman Tricia Primrose told Reuters. The news was announced to company employees on Thursday, June 5.

BEA Trade Floor Offers a Wealth of Intriguing Titles

"Stacks of books were piled high all over" reads a passage from the opening chapter of a new work by German author Cornelia Funke -- a passage that might almost describe the literature-laden aisles of the Los Angeles Convention Center last week, during the 2003 BookExpo America. "Small piles of books, tall piles of books, books thick and thin, books old and new. They welcomed ... with invitingly opened pages; they kept boredom at bay ... and sometimes you fell over them."

Barefoot Books Fills Shoes With Champagne for 10th Anniversary

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Book Sense publisher partner and children's book publisher, Barefoot Books, the homegrown project of two mothers, Tessa Strickland and Nancy Traversy. With previous careers in publishing and management consulting, respectively, the two founded the company in the U.K. in 1993, publishing 10 cross-cultural picture books with no other staff.

Pocket Books Recalls Mass Market Edition of Deception Point On Friday, May 2, Pocket Books announced that it was recalling the mass market edition of Deception Point, by Dan Brown (ISBN 0671027387), because the prologue was inadvertently left out of the book. The publisher conducted a "rush reprint" to replace the recalled books, which were scheduled to be available by May 5.
