Hotel ABA Reservation Deadline April 1

To take advantage of the special rate at this year’s BookExpo America hotel exclusively for ABA member booksellers, the Grand Hyatt New York, booksellers must make their reservations before the room block fills up or by April 1, whichever comes first.

A Report on the February 2013 ABA Board Meeting

The American Booksellers Association’s Board of Directors met from February 20 - 22, 2013, in Kansas City, Missouri, just prior to the eighth annual Winter Institute. Among other things, the Board approved candidates for the 2013 elections, discussed plans for upcoming educational events, and received reports on an array of association projects.

Swipe Fee Settlement Recommendation Forthcoming

ABA is encouraging members to hold off making any decision on filing the swipe fee settlement notice in the federal antitrust lawsuit over rapidly rising Visa and MasterCard credit card swipe fees until the association issues a recommendation.

Petition Process Open for Additional Board Candidates

The names of three director candidates approved by the ABA Board will appear on the ballot to be sent to main store members at the end of March. Under ABA’s Bylaws, bookstore members may submit petitions to have additional director candidates placed on the ballot.
